French Kids Eat Everything: How Our Family Moved to France, Cured Picky Eating, Banned Snacking, and Discovered 10 Simple Rules for Raising Happy, Healthy Eaters
I received this book through Goodread's First Reads giveaway.
This sounded interesting at first and I was really happy that I received this. I'm a firm believer of trying new things, especially at a young age, and trying something at least twice. I do like how the French found that multiple tries to be a key to liking a food or foods. I do feel though that sometimes even after a while there will come a time in which one will not like a specific food, the author even shows it multiple times! I can't blame them for not liking cauliflower!
I did find many parts of this hard to swallow, and I think that's because, as she pointed out, North America is different in it's thinking than that of France's. It's presented in a wonderful way though, and it really got me thinking. Due to her approach of it being based off of her family, it felt like I was right there and was presented in such a way in which it was easy to understand both sides of the argument.
There were some questions I did have, such as what to do for those who have allergies, dietary restrictions (both religious or otherwise), but she took that in stride and showed that it could be more adaptive to one's needs as long as the main principles/rules she pointed out are still there.
I agree with her in the sense that if there is one meal in which the entire family can come together it would definitely be beneficial, though the timing may be hard given that our dinner times are earlier than those in France even though I know many who eat at later times. I do agree with many parts of this book though, such as limiting of snacks.
The best part of this series was that it showed that having a healthy meal (both food wise and strengthening the family bond) isn't as difficult as it is made out to be. I also believe that this isn't just limited to just getting children to eating healthily, but adults as well. I definitely will be trying this out, even though I do not have children at the moment, and my mom has been eagerly waiting to read this book as well. I am really glad that I got this book. It's a lot of fun.
